In 1996, Staley's life was turned upside down when his former fiancée, Demri Lara Parrott, died of a drug overdose and when she passed, so did a bit of Staley. Following his death in 2002, Screaming Trees frontman told Rolling Stone, "He never recovered from Demri's death. After that, I don't think he wanted to go on."
